Strength Training for Boxers
“Boxers shouldn’t lift heavy weights” … Myth
Power = Force x Velocity
And nothing trains you to develop higher levels of force than quality strength work.
Strength work also has a crossover with power/speed work as motor units (which control muscle fibres) learn to fire at faster rates.
On top of this, muscles, tendons, ligaments and even bones develop and become more resilient tissues, potentially reducing injury risk.
Maximal strength is a key part of a boxers athletic development.
Fighters are better for being stronger
Athletes are better for being stronger
Humans are better for being stronger
All else being equal, Strong is Never Wrong!
